Initial setup. 1 has the ball at the top, 5 on the left wing.
DESCRIPTION
Attacker tries to dribble through a gate defended by an opponent. Develops 1v1 courage, change of pace, and the willingness to take players on — the most missing trait in modern academy football.
COACHING POINTS
• Attack the defender at pace — don't slow down to think
• Use a feint or step-over to commit the defender
• Change of pace to beat them — slow then explosive
• Protect the ball with the far foot once past
• You will lose some — that's how you learn to win more
Progression: smaller gate (3 yards). Two defenders. Attacker must score in mini-goal after beating the defender.
Regression: larger gate (6 yards), defender starts further back.
