Initial setup. 1 has the ball at the top, 5 on the left wing.
DESCRIPTION
Three-player pattern that mimics a wing-to-striker combination. A passes to B, B sets to C running, C plays a through-ball back to A on the overlap.
COACHING POINTS
• Timing of the overlap run is everything — late, then explosive
• B's set pass uses the inside of the foot, weighted to the runner
• C's through-ball lands in stride, not at the runner's feet
• Communicate: the overlap caller shouts 'yours!' or 'hold!'
• Finish with a cross or shot — never just pass-and-stop
Progression: add a passive defender on B who can intercept. Compete: two groups race to complete 10 reps.
Regression: walking pace, no defender, no finish.
